Friday July 31 and Saturday August 1st the Route 29 will be on Detour starting at 1pm. Inbound to MSS will from Protest, forward onto Beacon, left onto Broadway, where the bus will service the stop at Broadway and University far side. Outbound from MSS will be forward on Main St, right on Broadway, servicing the stop at Broadway and University, turning right on Beacon, and continuing up Protest. All stops on University, Capitol, and 9th street for the route 29 will be inaccessible at this time.

New on-demand bus service now available in Eagle

A new public transportation service is available in the City of Eagle in the form of on-demand bus service called VRT OnDemand.

The 160 Eagle OnDemand will provide service between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The service area includes most of the city of Eagle, with three additional destinations:

  • Gary and Bunch, with connections to Boise routes 9 State Street and Route 12 Maple Grove
  • The Village at Meridian, with connections to Meridian Route 30 Pine and Route 45 Boise State/CWI via Fairview
  • St Luke’s Meridian campus

The on-demand service is the result of a long planning process between VRT and City of Eagle staff. The city will provide the local funds needed to operate the service.

“While Eagle is a smaller city in the larger Treasure Valley, we are excited for VRT to provide an on-demand transportation service option to assist our senior citizens and other residents without transportation options,” said Eagle Mayor Jason Pierce. “We appreciate VRT’s willingness and partnership to create a unique option that fits Eagle’s needs.”

“Valley Regional Transit is excited to debut this new service in Eagle,” said VRT CEO Elaine Clegg. “The city has been working hard to support their citizen’s transportation needs and we are looking forward to being part of that.”

The 160 Eagle OnDemand will be free to ride through the end of August – it is the second public transportation service provided by VRT in Eagle. The transit authority also operates Eagle Senior Transportation Service, an application-only service for older adults.

Riders can schedule trips through the “VRT OnDemand” mobile app, online at rideVRT.org/book, or by calling the Valley Regional Transit Help Desk at 208-345-7433. Rather than being picked up at a bus stop using fixed time schedules, riders are picked up near their location and dropped off near their destination within the service zone.

The 160 Eagle OnDemand is the second on-demand service in the VRT transit system. In October 2020, bus service in Nampa/Caldwell changed from fixed-route to VRT OnDemand.
